Bent Honda Civic Type R Wheel: Straightened, Then Refinished White to Match the Car

A white six-spoke wheel from a Honda Civic Type R came in bent, with a wobble you could see as it spun. We straightened the rim, then refinished it in a white matched to the car, so the repaired wheel sits with the other three instead of standing out. Before and after.

How it arrived

Brought in with a bent rim and a worn finish.

Reported symptoms

  • Rim bent — a visible wobble when the wheel spins
  • Finish worn and wanted to match the rest of the set

Outcome

The wheel was straightened so it runs true again and refinished in a white matched to the car, to sit with the rest of the set. The work carries our 12-month / 12,000-mile warranty on new parts, whichever comes first.

This white six-spoke wheel from a Honda Civic Type R came in with two problems: the rim was bent, and the finish no longer matched. A bent rim is easy to miss with the wheel on the car — it can show up only as a vibration at speed or a tire that keeps losing air — but spin the wheel and the wobble is plain to see. This one wobbled.

Straighten first, then refinish

The order matters. The rim was straightened first, so the wheel runs true again, and only then refinished: stripped, prepped and painted. Painting a wheel that is still bent just gives you a nice-looking wheel that still vibrates.

Matching the color

White is one of the hardest wheel colors to get right: there are many whites, and a wheel that is a shade off is obvious next to the other three. We matched the white to the color of the car, so the repaired wheel sits with the rest of the set instead of standing out.

What to take from this

If a wheel vibrates, loses air or simply looks worn, it is usually repairable. New England potholes bend a lot of rims every spring; we cover what else they do to a car in our article on pothole damage. More on straightening, welding and refinishing on our wheel reconditioning page.

FAQ

Questions this job raises

Can a bent alloy wheel be repaired?

Usually, yes. Most bent rims can be straightened so the wheel runs true again. A cracked wheel has to be assessed separately.

Can you match the wheel color to my car?

Yes. On this Civic Type R wheel we matched the white to the color of the car, so the refinished wheel matches the rest of the set.

Should a bent wheel be straightened before refinishing?

Yes. Straighten first, then refinish — painting a bent wheel leaves the vibration in place.

How much does bent rim repair cost in Worcester?

Bent rim repair starts at $119.89 and a one-color refinish at $189.89 at our Worcester, MA shop. See our wheel reconditioning page for the full price list.
