How it arrived
Brought in for a wheel refinish.
Reported symptoms
Wheel finish worn and due for a refinish
Outcome
The Expedition King Ranch’s wheels were refinished in their two-tone bronze look and went back on the truck. The work carries our 12-month / 12,000-mile warranty on new parts, whichever comes first.
The King Ranch is the top of the Expedition range, and its wheels are part of the look: a two-tone design with bronze spokes and a bright outer face, finished off with the King Ranch center cap. This Expedition came in for a wheel refinish.
Refinished: bronze spokes, bright outer face. The protective film is still on part of the rim.
Two-tone takes more work than one color
A single-color wheel is stripped, prepped and painted. A two-tone wheel needs both finishes to come out right and a clean line between them, so the two are done separately. That is why a two-tone refinish costs a little more than a one-color one on our price list.
Back on the truck, front and rear.
What to take from this
Trim-specific wheels like these are often expensive or slow to replace new, and a mismatched replacement is obvious. Refinishing keeps the original wheels and brings back the finish. Our guide on curb rash and bent rims covers when to repair and when to replace, and our wheel reconditioning page has the prices. More on Ford service on our Ford page.
